[Open] Card Games on Boat-ercycles
Who: Mint (the Warrior of Light) and ??? (open!)
What: Mint is need of card games, and is willing to teach literally anyone how to play Triple Triad
Where: Lounge
When: Day 3-4, solidly PRE event
Warnings: None in particular.
Mint is just sitting in the lounge, idly tapping a hand on the arm of the couch. There's... honestly not much to do. Sure, they could explore the horrible damp corridors of the boat, or draw but..
To be perfectly honestly, no. They don't really want to do that right now. Its dark! Its full of ghosts! Mint had nightmares last night, and no, she doesn't remember them. She's fine with that, honestly!
But the conclusion of that is that they're bored to all seven hells and back. Back in Eorzea if that happened Mint could just. Teleport away! Travel somewhere else! Go to the Gold Saucer even-
Mint sits up. Actually... she rummages through her pack for a few minutes, and pries out a small box stuffed with cards. Its not her full collection but its enough to make a few hands.
Triple Triad. What a wonderful game.
Standing up, Mint cups a hand by her mouth and calls, "Hey! Does anyone want to learn a card game?"

Triple Triad. What a wonderful game.

IT'S A MARIO'S TIME
"Ooh! Me! Me! I love games!!!"
The smile in his voice is evident even as he runs up to where Mint is set up. His eyes are shining like they haven't before. It's a dangerous kind of shine, but his grin is as friendly as always.
"How does it-a work? Where do we start?"
WILLINGLY CAPTIVE AUDIENCE???
Still, he looks invested already which is a great sign. If there's a bit of gleam in her own eyes, well.
Mint quickly spreads a play mat out. Its a cheap travel set made of off cuts of wood, but it definitely fits in her pack. "So, the game is Triple Triad, and takes about 10 cards and a nine by nine grid like this. Basically, when you put down a card, whoever has the biggest number wins the other card."
Mint licks her lip, ears twitching. Is that a good enough explanation? Actually, you know what, "How about we start with making a hand for you and go from there!"
People learn by doing right? Mint can't really remember how she was taught anyway.
HE SURE IS!!!!
"Oh, yeah, that sounds good! Easier to learn by doing, anyway!!"
As he settles in, he asks: "Wins the other card for... keeps?"
YEAH BABY!! CARDS!!!
Her hands twitch like she was about to ill advisedly start another tutorial in the middle of her tutorial segment.
"I'll demonstrate after you've got some cards of your own, alright?"
That said, Mint laid a couple piles onto the desk. "Right. So. Triple Triad. It's played with ten cards total, and each player gets five. First of all, we get the cool cards. The good ones. The aces. A player gets uh." Mint pauses visably and checks her own deck. "One five star and one four star each. You can see the stars in the corner."
Mint lays a variety of cards out for Mario to pick through, tapping the left-hand corner.
There's cards in her hands.
(Its quite the collection of horrors and tragedies in card form, honestly. Each one could be a tale to themselves, which is. Probably why none of these particular cards made into her deck. Its still oddly comforting to flip through them, though. Histories in card form... Something about that idea itches at her but right now is Game Hour.)
histories in card form, you say,,,,
"Ooooh!!! And I get to pick one of each? In-a that case, I'll take... hmmmmmmm...."
He thinks it over, long and hard - the pictures, the imagery captured, the designs of these creatures, so lovingly rendered. Real? Fake? Does it matter? They're cards!!! They're gorgeous!!! The simplicity of the funny robot (machine?) calls to him, but he can't decide. Finally he taps the righthand five-star, and the left-most four-star.
"I think I'd-a like the dragon. And uhhhh I'll take the pretty bunny lady as well."
cards!!! more cards!!!!
(Actually that could be a problem. Mint wonders, briefly, if she has enough to maybe draw an Ardbert card. Yes she could use Omega (the 'funny robot') but its the principle of the thing.)
No time for that though. For now, Mint has a deck to help build!
"Alright then!" Mint nods and a quick shuffle of cards, sets out a solid selection all across their desktop. "Now, you'll need three more cards for your deck. You could just go for all 2 or 3 star, they have more solid numbers, but in my opinion a well placed 1 star can work wonders. Its all up to you! If you want to swap some cards after playing, that's just part of the fun, if you ask me."
There's even more cards! What a collection!
Mint gazes off into the distance, like looking into a dramatic sunset. "The experimentation... The trial and error... Its all part of the game."
(Mint might be too into this.)
SO MANY EVEN
Mario is still nodding along seriously. It's okay, Mint, he's also super into this - even if he doesn't get it. Yet. (Hopefully he will!)
"Ooh, tough selection. Let's-a see..."
He taps the funny cactus first, because, like, obviously. A cactus getting mad!! So fun. Then he goes ahead and taps the cute little water creature with music notes around it, two over from the cactus, endeared. Finally, the fat bird running at high speed. Two 2-stars and one 1-star, that should be good, right? ...is something he thinks well after making his selection, having chosen mostly on vibes alone.
"These are really interesting cards! All sorts of creatures and colors... I can see why you'd-a want to collect 'em!"
Gambler guy is definitely curious (but only when you have energy for this ok? ok)
He wasn't sure if they'd be here, but then his luck could be kind, sometimes. He puts on a friendly smile for the cat...person sitting at one of the tables. Mint green attire and hair...
"Hello there, Miss Mint. I believe we have a mutual...friend," he could call Mario that, right? "who mentioned that someone named Mint could be found teaching a card game in the lounge. That would be you, correct?"
Quite sure he had the right person, he bows a little from the waist. "You can call me Aventurine. I'm quite the fan of card games and the like, and with all the free time we have on this ship, well...I must say, I'm very curious to learn something new here." What sort of games other worlds play. What sort of things they bet...sometimes learning information could be its own reward. Building connections. Alliances. It'd all pay off in its own way. His smile widens with anticipation.
"If you have time, I'd like to learn from you!"
take your time, the doctor is patient
Veritas found himself reluctant to explore the boat much to his own dismay. He had spent a greater part of his arrival to experiencing as much as he could of the vessel he had access to, but if he was frank, he found himself at his wit's end with the sheer assault to the senses this new environment has been for him. He isn't delicate by any means, but with no respite, he isn't sure he'd make any productive progress with his pounding head.
He returns to the lounge area after scoping out his newly assigned room the Ship just gave him and hears something he hopes might soothe his aching mind.
A card game? While he's usually not interested in juvenile means of entertainment, he can appreciate the mental stimulation that learning a new set of rules will give him.
"A game you say? From your place of origin, I presume. Mind filling me in on the details?" He walks over seemingly intrigued.
Who knows, perhaps he'll learn something else new too, knowing that the others here come from different worlds, different universes entirely.
ENDLESS CARDS......
"Mm, its easy to get hooked!" Mint sets their own deck on the table, and then pulls out a small pouch. Setting it down with a jingle, Mint pulls out a few coins. "Honestly, I'm not really sure where all of the cards come from, but they're a great memento when traveling. Finding a local player, winning cards off them... Honestly, there's something really nice about getting a new card."
instant tag back WA-POW
And then Mint sets the pouch of coins on the table, and Mario tilts his head, though his eyes light up in understanding. This? This he gets. This is just Mario Party rules, if he understands it right.
"Oh. Unless you-a play for coins?"
GOLD SAUCER INTENSIFIES
She trails off though, at his last sentence. The coin is, suddenly, gripped tight. "For coins? Well... I only got them out for flipping for who goes first but... I do play for coins as well..."
Mint grins, one lip tipped up, somehow more keenly interested than ever. "Want a starting pile?"
no subject
"I would love a starting pile."
